The First Houses

Thanks to the financial support of the Community Development Scheme by way of a grant of over
K200,000, ATprojects has be able to start it's building program at the centre.

The first building to be constructed are 4 staff house, these houses have been designed to use the maximum amount of local materials. The houses have also been design to meet the needs of rural schools who face an ever increasing demand for teaching staff housing.

Given the extent of the building program ATprojects is in the process of developing it's building "team" and already we have employed over 8 new staff, and as the program unfolds this team will grow.

The site of the first staff house is leveled, this work is done by hand using local village labour.

While timber is use in 90% of the construction the lower walls are cast in concrete to protect them from weathering.

The house are using a special designed construction system that uses local timber posts and prefabricated timber panels.

With the construction of house number one well underway, the foundations of the second house are set-up.

All the roof trusses are prefabricated in the ATprojects workshop in Goroka before being transported to the site .

This picture shows the site of the new skill training and classroom building, the site is being cleared before survey work can begin.
