Herowana Water Supply In late 1998 ATprojects was approached by the Research and Conservation Foundation of Papua New Guinea to assist in the development of water supply system for a number of villages in the Crater Mountain Wildlife Management Area of the Eastern Highlands Province. The village of Herowana was chosen by RCF as the pilot village for its water supply assistance project. Guasa Water Supply Drought in 1997 was severe. Statistically, it was the worst drought of this century, including the dry spells in 1916, 1944, 1970 and 1983. This drought started as early as April (1997) in some places in the Eastern Highlands Province and became widespread in July. During a meeting between the staff of ATprojects and Barbara and Michael Howell (Faith Mission) the water supply needs for the people of Guasa area were discussed. Daulo District Schools Water Supply Project - Stage One As part of the drought relief programme ATprojects is developing a project with the Asaro / Watabung Local Government Council and the Division of Education to install large water tanks in all of the 16 community schools in the Asaro / Watabung District. Aitape Disaster Water Supply Water Project One of the problems facing the people involved in the Aitape disaster was a lack of good (drinking) water. Following a number of visits to the Ramo Camp, staff of Save the Children Fund requested ATprojects assistance in designing a portable water catchment and tank unit that could be used by family groups for drinking water. Once design work was complete, 25 units were supplied. |

Amenano Mane Aid Post As part of the drought relief programme ATprojects developed a project with Faith Mission to install a two water tanks at the remote Amenamo Mane Aid Post in the Lufa District.

BenaBena Seedling Project As part of the drought relief programme ATprojects worked with the Division of Agriculture to supply seeds and other materials to a group of farmers in the BenaBena District. These farmers have a history of market gardening and during the drought they lost all their crops, including seedlings. |

Henganofi Water Supply Survey Project - Stage One ATprojects developed a project with the Provincial Disaster Relief Committee to survey all the schools and aid posts in the Henganofi District, with the aim of developing a long term project to up-grade the districts water storage capacity. |

Irrigation Training & Demonstration Project As part of the drought relief programme ATprojects suppported the Fresh Produce Development Co. to develop an irrigation training and demonstration project. The project will form part of a larger province wide irrigation programme aimed at introducing irrigation systems to rural communities. |

Mimanalo Women's Nursery Project. As part of the drought relief programme, ATprojects arranged for funding support for the Mimamalo Women's Nursery Project. The nursery is operated by 22 women from 3 clans in the Kabiufa area, the aim of the project is to supply seedlings to group members with any surplus being sold to local subsistence farmers. |

New Tribes Mission Irrigation Project As part of the drought relief programme ATprojects supported New Tribes Mission to develop a small-cale irrigation project in Lapilo and Unggai / Bena District. The project will form part of a larger province wide irrigation programme aimed at introducing irrigation systems to rural communities. |

Relief Foods Supply Following the distribution of relief food supplies in the Daulo District it came to light that 6 villages were missed. At the request of the Local Government Council, ATprojects worked with the Provincial Disaster Relief Committee to re-issue part of the food supplies and also to find funding for the balance of these supplies. |

Relief Medical Supplies Following the increase in drought related sicknesses, the Goroka Base Hospital were running short on a number of drugs to assist people affected by the drought. ATprojects was able to assist by providing information to donors and requesting funds to assist the Goroka Base Hospital. |

Rural Community Water Supply Project By using the current network of churches and NGO's operating in the Province, ATprojects make available water tanks (4,500 litre Tuffa Tanks) to rural communities. This tanks were made available to communities that demonstrate that they have the ability to purchase or supply the other construction materials required to install these tanks. |

Catchment Test Project As part of ATprojects programme to develop village based rain water catchment system, a project was undertaken to test the design and construction methods of a large catchment unit. This project was carried out in partnership with the Hiriconny Women Group in the Asaro village in the Daulo District. |

Daulo District Community Water Supply Project - Stage One This project aims to provide assistance to communities in the Daulo District to construct rainwater catchment systems. This project will draw on the combined participation of the communities, ATprojects and Caritas New Zealand. |

Henganofi District School Water Supply Project - Stage One This project aims to provide rainwater catchment systems and tanks for a water a reticulated system to three community schools in the Henganofi District. This first stage will draw on the combined participation of the community schools, the Henganofi District Local Level Government, the Provincial Government of the Eastern Highlands and ATprojects.

Maimafu Village Water Supply System ATprojects has been contracted by the PNG Research and Conservation Foundation to develop a project to provide water to Maimafu Village. The project is being planned in such a way as to maximize the involvement of the local Maimafu community.

Daulo District School Water Supply Project - Stage 2 Continuing from stage 1 of the project, ATprojects with the Daulo District Local Government Council and the Division of Education wish to install 20 large water tanks at the community schools in the Daulo District. the project aims to give each school an average of 150 days of water storage.

Computer Training - Stage One In partnership with CUSO and Netcorp (two Canadian organizastions), ATprojects is currently operating a 6 months project aimed at developing the computer skills of NGO staff in the Eastern Highlands Province. The project is staffed by two volunteers who provide training on a one to one bases over a period of 5 days. This project is proving to be very successful and it is planned to continue this training in a stage 2 project.
