ATprojects focuses on development long-term, and some of our projects are the outcome of work started on a number of years ago. These projects direct the future of ATprojects' work in the rural areas of Eastern Highlands Province.

AT Bisnis As part of ATprojects operation, products suitable for rural development are sold and these items include the complete range of Tuffa Water Tanks and Freeplay Radio's, school desks, student exercise books and a number of other products. Low Cost Water Catchments While the "Aitape Catchment" is very suitable for rain water collection following natural disasters like Aitape as it can be set up in a matter of hours, the "portable" nature of the design meant that it was too expensive for many rural villages. So a cheaper catchment had to be found that would use as many locally available materials as possible...(See Feature).

ATnius With a five year funding base ATprojects is producing 2,500 copies (monthly) of an appropriate technology newspaper. ATnius is aimed at providing rural communities in the Eastern Highlands with information on technologies, training and general development projects that could improve village life...ATnius |

ATproject Staff Housing As ATprojects expands so does our staff housing needs. Given our aim of promoting "AT", we have started this project with the aim of building our staff housing in a large rural community about 8 kms of Goroka. All the houses will be designs at "demonstrations" of technologies suitable for rural development, eg. lighting from solar panels and use of improved local materials.

Daulo School Health & Sanitation Promotion Project (Exercise Books) The project aims to build positive attitudes amongst students in rural schools towards the need for better health and sanatation. District Project Support Programme - Stage One The project aims to increase the number of successful rural projects (and therefore the benefits of these projects) in the Districts of the Eastern Highlands Province by producing a district based development service, that works together with District Government Staff, Church Workers and Rural Communities. This project is currently operating in the Daulo District.

Rainfall Harvesting Data Collection In response to the growing need for information on the past, current and future patterns of Rainfall in the Eastern Highlands Province, ATprojects will establish a project to collect rainfall data. This data will be made available by way of information sheets and a computer data base to people interested in using this information to assist rural development projects.

Rural Building Improvement Programme - Stage One This project is working with the Local Level Governments, Divisions of Education and Health and Rural Communities in the development of appropriate designs for school classrooms and aid posts .

Rural Development Radio Network In response to the growing need for rural communities, ATprojects and the Christian Radio Missionary Fellowship have established the Rural Development Radio Network. In much the same way as the current mission radio network works, the new Rural Development Radio Network will offer the a number of services to clients in the rural areas of PNG. |

Schools Water Supply Education Project The projects aims to create lasting improvements in the health and hygiene behaviour of teachers and children at community schools, and also develop an understanding of the importance of looking after the school assets such as water supply systems. This district-based project is providing appropriate information, project design, management support and basic technical support that focus on redeveloping the current decaying rural asset base by upgrading the water supply and sanitation facilities at the community schools in the Eastern Highlands Province...ATprojects Shop |

Village Bakery Development The project aims to increase the number of income generating village based projects by developing appropriate learning material for people interested in starting up and operating small scale village based bakeries. The project will provide appropriate learning material that can be used by projects and training centres that teach skill to rural people. |

VIRTU nius Following the success of ATnius, ATprojects has been asked to produce 1000 copies per month of a 16 page newspaper from VIRTU (Village Industry Reseach & Training Unit) on Bougainville. VIRTUnius highlights technologies and equipment that are appropriate to rural communities in this island province. |

Schools Infrastructure Maintenance Courses ATprojects has been contacted to deliver a number of Department of Education / BEICMP, schools infrastructure maintenance courses. These courses aim to introduce schools to the "Schools Infrastructure Maintenance Manuals (SIMM). At these courses, participants will learn how the schools maintenance sub-committee can identify maintenance needs at their schools. |

AESOP In partnership with AESOP ATprojects arranges voluntary assignments through which Australians assist in the development of indigenous skills and expertise. To function effectively, businesses, institutions and organisations need skills and expertise. In many cases skills and expertise which are needed in developing countries are not available. At the same time, people living in developed countries with those same skills and expertise are availabel and willing to share their experience. AESOP exist to bring resources and needs together. |

Healthly School Programme This programme to improve the current situation at these schools is submitted as a partnership programme between: The Eastern Highlands Provincial Division of Health and ATprojects. Stage One of this programme covers the Goroka District, when the schools in this District are completed, stage two of the programme will move to a District selected by the Eastern Highlands Provincial Division of Health. |
