Human Rights Small Grants Scheme (HR-SGS)

Objectives
To strengthen domestic infrastructures that promote and protect human rights. The HR-SGS may complement other often much larger interventions in the area of human rights implemented through the Australian Government's bilateral and regional aid programs.

Elitgible Recipients
Organisations,preferably non-governmental, (but not exculuding government bodies) that are involved in the defence of human rights. Proposals from individuals are not eligivle. Preference will be given to proposals from agencies that have a proven track record of activity in the sector and / or country concerned, and which are financially accountable.

Available Funds Per Project
HR-SGS proposals should be small scale, i.e. up to a limit of $50, 000 per annum. Proposals for joint or partial funding will be considered. Projects for longer than 12 months may also be considered where an organisation can justify its continuation for more than 12 months.

Anything outside human rights promotion.

Objectives
To provide small amounts of funding to NGOs and civil society organisations to undertake work at the country level relative to the objective of the Response to HIV/AIDS project. To support pilot testing at the grassroots or community level of approaches and policy options.

Civil Society Organisations (including NGOs academic instituions, etc.) working in socio-economic development and HIV-related issues.

Preferred in the range of USD$2,000 to 6,000, but exceptionally up to USD30,000.

Preference will be given to proposals which will expand the response to HIV/AIDS, link up NGOs which have participated in the MacFArlene Burnet Centre (MBC) / UNAIDS / SPC Strategic Planning process, and / or the AIDS Task Force of Fiji (ATFF) capacity building process.
