Introduction:

Welcome to the ninth report for 2004.
This is the thirtyth report on the Church Building program for the month of September.
In 2002, we established agreements with all of the sub parishes, and work started at Amu.
In 2003, we collected gravel for Arop1, Arop2 and Pou; began site work at Arop1 and Pou, and the welding of the steel frames for Arop2; at Amu we completed the roof and the concrete floor; at Barapu completed ground works; and began the design of Barapu and Sissano.

Photo 1: This month the concrete works at Arop1 were completed. This included the floor, sanctuary steps, altar, side walls up to one metre height, side columns, slabs for the priest flat and garage, tank slabs, side and front footpaths, and septic tank.

Photos 2 and 3 also of Arop1 church showing the front view, and the concrete side walls.

Photos 4,5,6. Amu church: inside looking towards the sanctuary, the rear wall, and the sign.

Photos 4 and 5 shows the timber panelling being attached to the sanctuary wall. All of this timber has been planed by hand. Likewise for the rear wall. This was done by another carpentry group. In the rear wall above the entrance there is a choir loft inside the tower. The sign was painted by a local artist from Pes. This is a Memorial church to the Tsunami victims dedicated to St. Michael, the Archangel: patron of the parish of Amu and also Papua New Guinea.
