Presentation Sisters
By Sr. Felicity Corder, pbvm
Our congregation was founded in Ireland in 1775 by Nano Nagle. She was born in 1718 in a small county town in Ireland. She belonged to a wealthy family. Although she tried to live a good life, Nano really didn't do much to help her people who were in need.
Not only the were the people very poor, but the government would not allow Catholic children to be educated.
Gradually God touched Nano's heart and she saw how poor the people around her were. She understood that God was calling her to help them. She responded generously to God's call. She opened her first school in a little mud hut. It was followed by many others. She saw that education was the most important way of lifting them out of their poverty. Every day Nano visi ted each of her schools and taught the children about God and how much God loved them. After the day's work she visited the poor and old in their homes.
Soon Nano had other women following her and so the Presentation Sisters began. Now they are in many parts of the world loving God and serving others wherever there is a need.
Ireland, Australia, Papua New Guinea, North America, Africa, South America, India, Europe, Pakistan, New Zealand, England, Philippines.
