Diocesan Probation Officer

OBJECTIVE
To provide peace, justice and probationary services to the people of Aitape Diocese. To evangelise through peace and justice awareness on Law and Order under the CBC programs upholding the Diocesan Vision as the voice of the Aitape Diocese.

HISTORY:
The CBC (Catholic Bishop's Conference) Programme is not the governement's and the department's project. This programme was here being managed by (Mr. Hycent) from Yambil Village - Nuku District of West Sepik Province. The officer left due to not being supported by the Government, this left the office vacant until 2002.

During the year 2002, Bishop Austen Crapp ofm, made an Agreement between the government and appointed me to manage the programme (Pilot Project) from 2002 to 2009 (7years) as a Volunteer Probation Officer (VPO).

ACTIVITIES/ROLES/FUNCTIONS:

As stated above, these are targeted at people with the vision of seeing those addressed by their community to develop and feel as human persons living a good life by giving service to these communities.

VISION:
See those addressed by their community develop and feel as human persons living a good life by service to their community.

Working for Peace and Justice
If we have people in control of their lives, you have peaceful communities by:

  • manner of approaching one and others,
  • with the respect to self and others,
  • love and care for self than others,
  • with caring attitudes with pride, respect for human dignity,
  • respect for human rights,
  • respect for their environment,
  • observing the Law and abiding to as the citizens of this country and the communities you live in,
  • respecting the venues and opinions of others,
  • trustworthy and sincerity,
  • being faithful, etc.

    CONSTRAINTS:

  • lack the transport to conduct official duties,
  • lack of adequate funding for programme activities,
  • lack of ownership and participation by the government in being responsible for the programme at both levels (provincial and local level government).

    Thank you and God bless!
