Inaugural Certificate Ceremony at NALU College

NALU College of Advanced Education held it's first certificate presentation ceremony on 9th April 2007.

Out of a total of 60 students who had sat for their various examinations (Grade 7-10) last September, only 38 were successful in passing their course, and their certificates arrived at NALU in February.

Four students, Jilter Wanduo (Maths 10), Tidswell Wippei (Maths 8), Joel Edipau (Maths 9) and Cathy Menchalo (Maths 9) distinguished themselves in achieving Credit levels.

Despite the fact that the focus of the occassion was on the Grade 7 to 10 achievers, it was proud moment for Mr. and Mrs. Tomur to accept an Adult Matriculation certificate on behalf of NALU's first graduate of this award for Bill Tomur.

The occassion commended with a liturgy of readings, focusing on the Easter message. Br. Thomas Rice fsp, led the service with some words of inspiration for the students to accept their efforts, and to be sure to keep persevering and not lose hope.

NALU's special guests were the Catholic Education Secretary, Mr. Linus Keri, and a distinguished citizen of Aitape, Mr. Joe Mucksing.

Mr. Keri offered the parents and students some words of congratulations, recognizing the efforts that they and the staff of NALU have made over the years.

Mr. Mucksing presented the certificates, followed by his very delightful and humorous words. He expressed his insistence on the students to value education, particularly the fact that they have a chance to do something for themselves by the presence of NALU.

The NALU Administrator, Leonard Blahut, thanked Mr. Mucksing for his good will in letting NALU College of Advanced Education be the new bearer of his vision to serve the Nuku, Aitape and Lumi Districts in a United way (N.A.L.U.).

The event concluded with light refreshments prepared by the NALU staff for all to part-take.

Mr. Blahut also expressed his appreciation to all those who have brought NALU College to its present status, particularly emphasizing the generous effort made by Mr. Luke Asuman. NALU hopes that next year the first graduate of the Grade 10 certificate will emerge.
