A silent Catholic Youth

By Francis Sukwana
Woluk Parish Youth Coordinator)

St. Peter Woluk Catholic Youth have been silent for four consecutive years, sustaining its support through promotion and implementation of social, physical and spiritual programs at its sub-parish level, with little assistance from neighbours and outside.

The creation and formation of the Woluk Catholic Youth Group was based on a vision as stated; 'To create a social, physical, mental and spiritual environment for each youth after leaving school.'

We also believe and have in mind that through such opportunities and initiatives, our youths can at least forget about so many problems they have encountered in life.

Some of these problems include drugs and illegal alcohol. We have encouraged the youths through these programs so that they can concerntrate on these activities to promote a healthy, social and spiritual well being.

One of the successes or achievements had by this silent youth group is that they were able to host a mini soccer tournament, the Palai LLG Soccer Tournament, which was held from 9th to 14th April this year.

A total of 15 teams both male and female participated during this tournament. The reason for hosting the tournament was to invite other people especially youths from different walks of life to come and share with us the skills, talents, attitudes and friendship with our youths.

From this event it is our pleasure to also acknowledge the little support from some of our clergy and other individuals such as Fr. Joe Amanos, his assistant Fr. Joe Tungi, the Marianita Sisters from Wassisi Parish and a former employee of the diocese, Mr. Charles Sirongo.

Finally, we believe, hope and pray that more people will come to realise the importance of supporting our young people as what the St. Peter Catholic Youth have done at Woluk Sub-parish.
