Long-time businessman honoured for service

One of the long-time businessman and well recognized figures in Sandaun Province gets the Queen's honour for his tremendous contribution to the people of the district, province and also the country.

Mr. Robert Lenton Parer CMG, MBE has been awarded a Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (CMG), by the Queen of England, Elizabeth 2.

Mr. Parer was appointed along with others to be included in Her Majesty's Birhtday Honors List, after he was nominated by the former District Administrator Martin Selmatin in the year 2000.

A letter from the Prime Minister, Sir Michael Somare, dated 19th June 2006 was recieved by Mr. Parer, officially recognizing that award and personally thanking him for his services to Papua New Guinea, especially in Sandaun Province, over many years in various capacities.

Mr. Parer is the second person in the province to be awarded a CBE (Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire), was Bishop Austen Crapp ofm.

Aitape Star would also like to congratulate both men for recieving these awards and thank them sincerely for their efforts and contributions to serving the people of Aitape-Lumi, Nuku and also the province.

We also thank with quiet prayers those unmentioned names who have contributed alot to our little town and province, although they may not be nationally recognized, they are heavenly recognized by the One who awards those for their good deeds.
