Two dedicated teachers make a big difference for the children and the people at Balup Community School.
Balup is a two-teacher school situated on the banks of the Daumap River near Suain Station and is 90 minutes walking distance from the main road.
The school is richly blessed and teachers who go there enjoy everything the nature provides including the good hospitality of the small community up there.
For three years the school was closed due to community unrest which interrupted peace in the community and the education service.
"I compliment Joseph Salas the headteacher and his assistant, Ms. Martina Singamai for their influence and dedication which gained the support of the community to put the school together again," complimented Bill Nasa, Christian Education Coordinator.
On a visit by Mr. Nasa and Abraham Omi, Field Officer and Inservice Coordinator on May 5th, they both commented that the school was impressively clean, tidy and in full swing.
"I also encourage other teachers especially those at remote schools to stay put and commit themselves for the good of the disadvantaged schools. You can make a difference," added Mr. Nasa.
Sandaun Province has been facing a continuous problem of no funding for many things in society, including the delay in teacher’s pay etc. Let’s not let this jeopardize a child’s right to education.
