Month of October, Month of Mary

Affected families stand along the edges
of the landslide area, with their skin painted
in mud as a ritual sign of sorrow for their
loss of homes, property, gardens etc.

A village representative and member of local assessment team (man wearing cap and black t-shirt) points to the landslide affected area.
According to reports submitted by the local assessment team, landslide activity is still continuing and parts of the land is being eroded away.

Parisheners in Aitape start Rosary Prayer routine in communities to honor the month of Mary in October.

Catholics in the little sub-parish of St. Ignatius in Aitape town began their monthly Rosary prayer routine with a Eucharistic celebration at the St. Martin's Pastoral Centre on Monday last week.

Each community in the sub-parish participated in the rosary prayer routine by taking turns in receiving the statue of Mother Mary to visit for a week in their community. Families gathered to pray the rosary every day at 6pm.

One community member of St. Martin's community and also a member of the Diocesan Renewal Program, Dorothy Jull reported that this month's rosary prayer routine was different because it was dirested by a theme. And the theme used was: "Yu God bilong mi, yu blong mi olgeta." (In English - You my God, is truly my God forever.)

Ms. Jull also mentioned that she believed Mother Mary was an instrument used by God to make us recognize her son Jesus Christ, and that of evangelization. She added that ourl ives too should be lived, following the way that Christ had shown us to follow.

The Month of October's rosary prayer routine will end with a final procession with all the statues of Mother Mary from the various communities to the St. Ignatius Cathedral where a Mass will be celebrated to end the program for the month.
