More than 400 youths of Namblo village in the Nuku District, have made a commitment to change their lives for the better.
The move came about during a spiritual program held at the village recently.
The inter-denominational program was led by the Assemblies of God church (A.O.G.).
Sandaun Provincial Administrator and AOG church member, Joseph Sungi, said the youths surrendered their home-brewing equipment and made a commitment to work with elders to bring positive changes to their village.
Mr. Sungi said some of the issues discussed with the youths and the whole village included HIV/AIDS and setting of community organisations.
He said the villagers have taken steps to establish a village development committee who will be responsible for financial contributions from villagers. The money collected will go into an account and will be used for projects for youths such as sports. Funds will also be used to buy portable sawmills for villagers to cut trees and build good and decent houses.
Plans are in place to purchase tanks for the people to have access to safe and clean water.
