People of Aitape town, commemorate National Disabled Day with celebrations and activities.
A three day program of the event was held in Aitape, from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th March.
Many attended the celebration, observing the day as being important and significant.
The three day program started with a march from the Diocesan Sports Centre to the town, before gathering in the town for speeches from various people who talked about the importance of the special event.
"We must always have a positive attitude towards disabled people, whether it be in what say, do and think," said Kelly Walpui, Project Coordinator for Fr. Antonine Disabled Centre in Aitape.
He added that disabled people needed a lot of support and care from their family, friends and leaders within their communities, districts and provinces, as most of the time they are forgotten and neglected.
The program ended with a Eucharistic Mass on Sunday a the St. Ignatius Cathedral where families attended together with other disabled people.
