Food collected by school students is on its way to drought affected areas.
Over a three week period students from Korobosea International School raised more than K300, using the money to buy 40 ten kilogram bags of rice. The students also donated three boxes of tinned food.
The idea was the brainchild of teacher Kath Lloyd who began collecting money at the school gate at the end of the day. Ms Lloyd said the children gave freely, and when she wasnąt at the gate would often seek her out to hand over their money.
She said a large part of the money came from a Mufty or out of uniform day. The cost of not wearing their uniform was one kina or a tin of food. Ms Lloyd said the children were magnificent in supporting the cause, the final amount raised K315.68.
While the efforts of the school and children was worthwhile, officials say the best course of action is to donate cash to the National Drought Relief Office.
